Heated metal elements were placed inside the rollers, after which the starched fabric was fed through the machine using a crank. The result was a crisp and uniform pleating pattern. Machines of this type played an important role in the production of clothing and headwear, where pleated fabrics were highly popular. The machine illustrates how technical innovations transformed domestic work and artisanal production at a time when fashion was playing an increasingly important role. Head Jewelry Women in coastal villages had their own traditions regarding clothing and the headdresses they wore to match. This was also true of the women of Zandvoort. On her head, a woman wore a pleated lace bonnet, often with a black underscarf worn underneath. Beneath that, she wore a silver or gold ear ring featuring two gold discs from which gold bells hung. They wore gold hairpins in their hair. Since not every woman could afford gold, metal earrings with imitation gold jewelry were also worn. The ensemble was completed with a blood coral necklace around the neck.
</oembed>
