B. Koekkoek This view, located near Swaluëstraat in Zandvoort, was captured by Johannes Hermanus Barend Koekkoek. It depicts an everyday scene typical of daily life at that time. Johannes H.B. Koekkoek Johannes Hermanus Barend Koekkoek (Amsterdam, 1840 – The Hague, 1922) was a Dutch painter from the well-known Koekkoek family of artists. He was the third son of the marine painter Hermanus Koekkoek (1815–1882) and, like his brothers, received his first painting lessons from his father. Starting in the 1860s, he developed his own style under the influence of the Hague School, which focused on a natural depiction of light, atmosphere, and everyday life. Koekkoek primarily painted beach and seascapes, coastal landscapes, ships, and scenes from fishing life. He also created cityscapes and landscapes. He regularly exhibited at “Living Masters” exhibitions and was a member of the artists’ association Arti et Amicitiae. His work reflects Dutch coastal and urban life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and is now represented in the collections of the Rijksmuseum and other Dutch museums, among others.
