Ceramics by Paulien Ploeger<\/h1>

The exhibition ‘Sculpture Now!’<\/a> features the work of ceramicist Paulien Ploeger. The works can still be seen until January 18. On the last day of the exhibition, Paulien Ploeger will give a lecture about her work and her sources of inspiration.<\/p>

An inspiring lecture by ceramicist Paulien Ploeger ‘A Piece of Earth’<\/h2>

Sometimes the calling for a craft is literally in the genes \u2013 or in the fingers. For ceramicist Paulien Ploeger, her artistic journey did not begin in a studio, but in the vast dunes of Kijkduin and Scheveningen.<\/p>

Nocturnal digging parties in the wardrobe<\/h3>

Paulien grew up in The Hague, where the dunes formed her natural playground. Her senses were stimulated there early on by the wind, the salty air and especially: the sand. Her fascination for digging and creating was so great that her imagination even ran away with it at night.<\/p>

“I remember it well,”<\/em> says Paulien. “As a child, I would crawl out of bed in a half-awake state to work on the contents of the wardrobe. In my mind, the textile of the clothing was not fabric, but sand in which I had to dig.”<\/em><\/p>

From the dunes to the oven<\/h4>

This deep-rooted urge to shape and discover ultimately led her to ceramics. What began as an intuitive game with sand grew into a professional artistry in which the dialogue with clay is central. During this lecture at the Zandvoort Museum \u2013 a place inextricably linked to that same coastline \u2013 Paulien will take you along her sources of inspiration. Whether you are a lover of modern ceramics, enjoy working with your hands yourself, or simply want to listen to an inspired life story: this afternoon offers a unique insight into the world of an artist who weaves the soul of the beach into her work.<\/p>
