Art in Residence – Art Lodgings

Museum Magazine spotlights Art in Residence – Art Lodgings at the Zandvoort Museum. Thanks to Fokelien Renckens-Stenneberg and Judith van Gent, the exhibition—featuring works from the Amsterdam Museum’s collection—has been extended through April 2028.

Anyone following the exhibition calendar of *Museumtijdschrift* couldn’t have missed it on August 22: “Art in Residence – Kunstlogies” at the Zandvoorts Museum featured prominently in the Facebook campaign of the leading art and museum magazine. With the theme “Art in Residence,” Museumtijdschrift once again brought the exhibition to the attention of a broad audience. Jozef Israëls’ 1872 painting *Children by the Sea* was used as the image for the campaign.

The choice of this painting is apt. Art in Residence – Kunstlogies is temporarily bringing works from the Amsterdam Museum’s collection to Zandvoort. There, the paintings are placed in a new context and connected to the history and surroundings of the seaside resort. This creates an interesting encounter between the Amsterdam Museum’s collection and the Zandvoorts Museum.

Museumtijdschrift as a Showcase for Zandvoort

The attention from Museumtijdschrift is more than just a mention in an exhibition calendar. The magazine reaches a wide audience of art and museum enthusiasts, making it an important showcase for exhibitions in the Netherlands. The fact that Art in Residence was featured again in the August 22 campaign gives the exhibition an extra boost beyond Zandvoort’s immediate vicinity.

For the Zandvoorts Museum, this visibility is significant. With “Art in Residence,” the museum has taken a new step toward greater professionalism. Extension through April 2028

Originally, the exhibition was scheduled to run through September 2026. The exhibition has since been extended through April 2028. This extension was made possible by Fokelien Renckens-Stenneberg, interim director of the Zandvoorts Museum, in collaboration with Judith van Gent, head of Collections at the Amsterdam Museum. Thanks to their collaboration, the loaned items can remain in Zandvoort longer, giving the public significantly more time to visit the exhibition.

Furthermore, the extension is a clear acknowledgment of the exhibition’s success. What began as a temporary art space will now run for a much longer period.

An important endorsement

The Museumtijdschrift campaign comes at just the right time. The nationwide attention Art in Residence is receiving shows that the Zandvoorts Museum is increasingly aligning itself with the broader Dutch museum landscape.
