Even during the war, people were already thinking about the future of Zandvoort. Urban planner Friedhoff and Mayor Van Alphen developed plans for the reconstruction of the heavily damaged village.

Eventually, Zandvoort took on a different look than before. Many characteristic buildings were replaced by apartment buildings and modern structures. The new water tower, built in 1953, also differed greatly from its predecessor.
