World War II left a deep mark on Zandvoort. About one-third of the village was demolished to make way for the Atlantic Wall. Villas, hotels, and the water tower disappeared, while many residents were forced to leave their homes. The statue of the resistance fighter on Verzetsplein commemorates the men and women who resisted the occupying forces and lost their lives in the process. This section of the exhibition tells the story of loss, courage, and resilience, and shows just how drastically the war changed the village.
