The exhibition ‘Reconstruction of Zandvoort’ showcases the architectural transformation of Zandvoort after the Second World War. The exhibition is on display from December 6, 2025, to April 6, 2026, at Zandvoorts Museum.
In honor of its 200th anniversary as a seaside resort, Zandvoorts Museum presents the exhibition ‘Reconstruction of Zandvoort’ starting December 6, 2025. This presentation is a specially curated section of the successful exhibition ‘Panorama Zandvoort, two hundred years of building a seaside resort’, previously shown at the ABC Architectuurcentrum Haarlem.
The Second World War had a major impact on Zandvoort. To facilitate the construction of the so-called Atlantic Wall, a large part of Zandvoort was razed to the ground. The subsequent reconstruction period was seized as an opportunity to develop a new Zandvoort, with a focus on beach tourism and recreation. New residential areas emerged, the center received a more modern structure, and the reopening of the beach and circuit provided a new impetus for tourism – which remains the engine of the local economy. This exhibition also showcases future plans for the Badhuisplein and the new water tower. The exhibition is richly illustrated with photographs, maps, historical documents, and a scale model.
The book ‘Panorama Zandvoort, two hundred years of building a seaside resort’ is for sale in the Museum Shop.
On December 14, 2025, anthropologist/historian Folkert Bloeme will give a lecture in the museum about the reconstruction of Zandvoort. Visitors will gain extra insight into both the history and future developments of the seaside resort. In his lecture, Bloeme tells the story of administrators, architects and residents who worked together on the reconstruction. He shows how urban planning choices and new architectural styles have changed the face of Zandvoort forever. With photos, maps and personal memories, he makes visible how the reconstruction period is still recognizable in the village to this day.
