On April 26, historian Koen Marijt will give a lecture on Zandvoort 200 years as a seaside resort. He authored the book ‘En Zandvoorts heilig strand is van mijn ’togt het doel’. His research formed the basis for Zandvoort’s jubilee year.

Koen Marijt is a historian and author specializing in local history. He studied history at Leiden University and immersed himself in the rich stories of his birthplace, Noordwijk. Koen has written several books, including Monografie van de badplaats Noordwijk aan Zee and En Zandvoorts heilig strand is van mijn ’togt het doel, in which he documents the history and culture of these coastal towns. Through his tours and lectures, he makes historical stories accessible to a wide audience. In 2019, he founded the initiative Koen van Toen to share his enthusiasm for history.

‘The Road to Zandvoort – 200 Years as a Seaside Resort’ is based on the book by Koen Marijt. The exhibition tells this extraordinary story in a lively and surprising way. Visitors discover the history through an engaging documentary, interactive elements, and a selection of original historical documents that provide a unique insight into the ambitious plans behind the birth of Zandvoort as a seaside resort. The exhibition is on display until September 6, 2026.
