In 2026, Zandvoort celebrates two hundred years as a seaside resort. The Zandvoorts Museum presents this remarkable story in the exhibition Reconstruction of Zandvoort. Discover how Zandvoort was rebuilt after the Second World War – and catch a glimpse of the future of Zandvoort.
From a quiet fishing village to a vibrant seaside resort – Zandvoort has undergone a massive transformation over the course of two hundred years. Discover how this all happened in the exhibition Reconstruction of Zandvoort, on display at the Zandvoorts Museum from December 6, 2025.
The Second World War had a major impact on the character of the village. For the construction of the so-called Atlantic Wall, a large part of Zandvoort was razed to the ground. The subsequent reconstruction period was used to develop a new Zandvoort, focusing on beach tourism and recreation. Reconstruction of Zandvoort is richly illustrated with photographs, maps, and models. It is part of the Panorama Zandvoort exhibition previously shown at the ABC Architecture Centre Haarlem.
In addition to the exhibition, a beautifully illustrated publication has been released by ABC Haarlem. The book is available in the Museum Shop.
